Twist Pile Carpets

Twist pile carpets are incredibly durable and can manage the day-to-day demands of any home, making them a popular choice for high foot-traffic areas like living rooms, hallways and stairs.

The shorter and tighter the pile, the less the carpet will show signs of flattening. Twist carpets are twisted during the manufacturing process and sometimes two fibres are twisted together (twin ply) which makes the carpet extra durable.

Saxony Carpets

Saxony carpets have a luxurious look with a deeper pile, making them a popular choice for people who love that feeling of sinking their toes into their carpet.

A Saxony is the same construction as a twist pile carpet, but they are loosely twisted at the bottom and a little more open at the top, which gives this type of carpet that fantastic softness that feels incredible to walk on.

Saxony carpets tend to be the carpets where you will see the lines where people have just vacuumed, or maybe even where the cat has walked across the carpet. Saxony carpets can appear as 2 different colours when looking at the carpet from different directions, this is known as shading and can give your room 2 different looks, depending on where you are situated in the room.

Loop Pile / Berber Carpets

Loop pile carpets are also known as Berber carpets. They are an incredibly popular choice of carpet, due to their textured look, durability and slightly firmer feeling underfoot.

Loop pile carpets are available in lots of different textures and patterns. They are available in different heights and different densities, and on different levels to create a unique textural design on the floor. Loop carpets are available in both wool and manmade products, or a blend of both. Manmade fibres (usually polypropylene) are harder wearing than natural fibres, so a wool/polypropylene blend carpet offers the best of both worlds.

A 100% wool loop carpet will be softer to the touch, but as wool is a natural material you may find a slight variation in colour and texture from the sample that you choose the carpet. Loop pile carpets are durable and suitable for all rooms in a home. The lower the loop, the more durable the carpet will be and the less the carpet will flatten over time.

Loop pile carpets are a good blend of durability and performance. The loop structure means a loop carpet is harder wearing than any other type of carpet and requires less upkeep. Loop pile carpets won’t leave tracking marks once the carpet is freshly vacuumed.

carpet underlay

The choice of a carpet underlay is just as important as the choice of carpet. Here are the main undeniable advantages of a decent underlay:

Luxury carpet underlays are thick and dense, providing an undeniable fantastic underfoot feeling. In addition, the underlay will absorb any impact and be a comforting cushion on your feet when you walk. This makes for a comfortable experience when walking on a carpet with quality underlay.

An underlay with a higher tog rating will, without a doubt, provide some extra insulation. The thick and dense materials block the cold air and prevent the warm air from escaping. As a result, a new underlay can reduce heating bills by approximately 15%.

A quality underlay will additionally help prevent wear and tear on the carpet, which can extend the life of a carpet by up to 50%. It will also protect your flooring from moisture within the subfloor; otherwise, damage may occur from dampness.

An excellent underlay will help a carpet retain its spring for longer. Furthermore, it prevents the pile from flattening as quickly as it may on an old underlay. It will also help maintain a quieter home.

 carpet materials

Nylon

Nylon is very soft, durable, and resistant t

o stains. It has good resistance to wear, mould, and mildew is easy to dye and holds its colour well. It is, overall, an excellent choice for carpet fabric.

Polypropylene
Polypropylene is the most popular carpet fibre and is now as soft as nylon; however, it can be much lower in price than wool and nylon. The main feature of a polypropylene carpet is that it is highly stain-resistant but can be prone to soiling and holding onto oils that collect dirt. It is, however, effortless to clean; bleach can even be used as part of the cleaning process. Overall, polypropylene carpets account for approximately 80% of all carpet sales.

Wool
Wool is a natural, luxurious and long-lasting material. Lower-grade wool is more prone to staining, while high-grade wool can be expensive. Most manufacturers combine wool with artificial fibres to create a carpet with the benefits of both. Pure wool carpet is made without chemicals or additives, which makes it an excellent choice for those with allergies. In addition, better-quality wool carpets will retain warmth, unlike lower-grade wool carpets. Undeniably, wool carpets are an excellent investment for any home.
